Camden Crescent Lawn

Everyone in the Camden area will have seen that the land situated between Camden Crescent and Upper Hedgemead Road has become overgrown and unsightly. The land is owned by BANES who acquired it from its previous owners in 1964. Since then the plot has lacked proper management resulting in its current neglected appearance. A group of concerned residents have assembled to look into what could be done to improve matters. Our aim has been to research the origins, historical context and legal status of the land; to audit its ecology and other attributes; investigate potential funding opportunities and to assess options for how it could be transformed. Amongst the constraints on how the land can be used are covenants in the title of the land. We have discussed the project informally with the Council and they are very interested in the project and keen to offer their support.

The group have put together a website and provide information about the current plans and its history. You can go to the website by clicking the "Wild Camden" tab at the top of the page.

Pigs in Camden - sadly missed

As part of the work on Camden Crescent lawn the council were  using pigs as part of a plan to improve the land. See here for a report in the Bath Chronicle.

Residents' Parking

July 2010 finally saw the introduction of the CPZ for Camden, Zone 15.

There were some problems in the first few weeks of the introduction of the scheme, notably that householders in several terraces of buildings were not notified of the scheme or given details of the type and availability of the various form of parking permits.  Hopefully this has now been rectified.

Many residents have told us that they are finding it much easier to find parking spaces and that traffic levels may have perhaps reduced as some non-resident motorists are looking elsewhere to park.  It is of course early days and factors such as students returning to university may have a bearing on the situation.  The Council should review the scheme after 12 months of operation.  In the meantime if you would like to let us know you experiences of the scheme please e-mail using the "Contact Us" on the top of this page with any experiences or suggestions.
